Copper Beech

The red leaves are last season’s growth, holding on as a brilliant reminder of precious days of sunshine on a fog-bound winter’s day in the Pacific Northwest. The silvery-green lichen, commonly known as Old Man’s Beard, is a sign of clean, pollution-free air. The picture barely does justice to the clarity of the light that day.
